There was only one catch and that was Catch -22

I first read this book 46 years ago when I was 13 and in the 8th grade. We were in West Germany. Dad was a DOD contract employee working on the installation of the Autovon system.
Amazing that this novel could have such an affect on a youngster like me.
The one sentence is still seared into my brain…..
And Snowden lay dying in back.

  1. “Appleby was a fair-haired boy from Iowa who believed in God, Motherhood, and the American Way of Life, without ever thinking about any of them, and everybody who knew him liked him.

“I hate that son of a bitch,” Yossarian growled.”

My big brother handed a well-worn paperback copy of Catch-22 at about the same time you read it. He was also a big Kurt Vonnegut fan, so I got to read those too. Reckon that makes us about the same age.

In fact, my taste in music comes from my big brother, too (as well as all of his hammey down jeans). I would spend hours and hours reading the album covers, production notes, dedications, and such. Sometimes that was the only place you could find the lyrics.

Now, it’s all just a mouse-click away. This internet thingy is pretty amazing!

You may fire when ready, Gridley
