Yeah. It still hurts.

I miss my old buddy terribly.

62 years on the third rock from the sun

After Thursday night/Friday morning it was time for some reflection.

I had potassium level issues, shall we say?

The VA called and left me a message about my potassium being critical at 2.7 and said to hit the ER. The minimum is 3.6 to be safe as being low affects the heart. So it was an all nighter in the ER in Palmdale………………………

They said I was fine at 3.7 but gave me two doses of the liquid in OJ…………ugh.

This is a situation that gets your attention.

62 years. Wow. I remember when thinking that I would be this age was so distant and now it’s here.

Gettin’ old ain’t for sissies………….Buck Pennington aka Exile in Portales.

Happy New Year!

It was a pretty good year……………….

The day at sea on USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 with OldAFSarge and The WSO was a major hi lite! I managed to complete another revolution of the Sun……………………..

One of us is gone

It is sad that one of our number has left this life.

Buck Pennington, aka MSGT Buck passed away this past week. The news was posted on his blog, Exile In Portales by his sons, Commander Pennington and Major Pennington.

May think they’re irresponsible?  MAY?  I fail to see how any reasonable American could think otherwise.  It takes the utmost in restraint to watch these Super-Committee asshats from BOTH parties pontificating on my teevee night after night, and by that I mean NOT throwing sumthin’ large and heavy at my screen.  I particularly find members of the Donkey-party reprehensible when they drone on and on about “jobs,” when it comes to the impending sequestration and other contexts.  WTF do THEY know about jobs, anyway?  And while we’re on the subject, there’s this:

Weekend Outrage: From my buddy Buck

Buck has this really good blog, Exile in Portales. He was one of my first followers at Old Retired Petty Officer after the cancer.

Got to link him every now and then. This one is an eye opener! But purely from Buck’s point of view, which at times, is really unique!

So go on over and have a look. It will be worth it.

A bit from the past

Air refueling at sea, circa 1980-1981.

My buddy, Buck has one up at Exile in Portales of a KC-135 refueling an AC-130 over his part of the world. Got me to thinking and viola, here it is.

A KA-6D of VA-145 refueling an EA-6B Prowler of VAQ-137. Taken on deployment to the Indian Ocean/Arabian Sea aboard USS Ranger CV61. 145 and Ranger are no longer with us, as it were. The ship and most of the air wing were decommissioned in the spring of 1993 just a few months before yours truly retired from active service.

Fond memories of a time long past. Shipmates.

Some of you will understand. Some of you will not. So it goes.

And it was referred to as the “Jimmy Carter Hostage Cruise.”
