Eyes of a Stranger

Queensryche………………………

Eyes of a Stranger………………sometimes when I look in the mirror, I don’t know the man looking back at me……………………

All alone now
Except for the memories
Of what we had and what we knew
Every time I try to leave it behind me
I see something that reminds me of you
Every night the dreams return to haunt me
Your rosary wrapped around your throat
I lie awake and sweat, afraid to fall asleep
I see your face looking back at me, looking back at me
And I raise my head and stare
Into the eyes of a stranger
I’ve always known that the mirror never lies
People always turn away
From the eyes of a stranger
Afraid to know what
Lies behind the stare
Is this all that’s left
Of my life before me
Straight jacket memories, sedative highs
No happy ending like they’ve always promised
There’s got to be something left for me
And I raise my head and stare
Into the eyes of a stranger
I’ve always known that the mirror never lies
People always turn away
From the eyes of a stranger
Afraid to know what
Lies behind the stare (Lies behind my stare)
How many times must I live this tragedy
How many more lies will they tell me
All I want is the same as everyone
Why am I here, and for how long
And I raise my head and stare
Into the eyes of a stranger
I’ve always known that the mirror never lies
People always turn away
From the eyes of a stranger
Afraid to know what
Lies behind the stare

Life Event

Life event/Milestone.

It’s official.
I am a Tool Room Attendant.
No more flight line or jets for me.
The foot issues enabled me to obtain a reasonable accomodation to get off the line.
For the record:
ACC on 83-1120, 80-3666, 80-0584 and 88-0445. DCC for a time on 88-0456.
It was a good run. Father Time finally let me know that it was time to do something else not as strenuous, as well did my doctor..
The main bragging point: Oldest Crew Chief on the Line at Red Flag 12-2 at the age of 57!

Happy New Year!

It was a pretty good year……………….

The day at sea on USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 with OldAFSarge and The WSO was a major hi lite! I managed to complete another revolution of the Sun……………………..

I watched my niece get married to a really good man………………………………………..

The disruptions……………………………………….

My friends………………………………..I miss them

5 years ago today part 3

Arrived at Via Christi Saint Francis Medical Center at 0530.
Got admitted. Went up to the surgical floor.
Out of the clothes and into the gown.
Belly was shaved.
Warm up shot.
Kissed Sharon.
Rolled to Pre Op.
IV in each arm.
Second warm up shot.
The last thing I remember was going through the double doors into the OR.
Woke up in the rolling bed going down a passageway surrounded by people.
Got to the room.
Doc and a small squad of nurses doing checks.
One nurse said that I needed to get up and walk!
The answer is not repeatable in mixed company. I assure you of that.
The surgery started at 0800. It was all done by 0945.
Left Kidney had been removed. The Fancy word is nephrectomy.
When I was released 4 days later, Doc Farha told me the pathology said that it was cancer.
Smack! Upside the head.

There was only one catch and that was Catch -22

I first read this book 46 years ago when I was 13 and in the 8th grade. We were in West Germany. Dad was a DOD contract employee working on the installation of the Autovon system.
Amazing that this novel could have such an affect on a youngster like me.
The one sentence is still seared into my brain…..
And Snowden lay dying in back.

My new T-Shirt

Missus ORPO got this for me……………………………………..It is a fitting thing for a cancer survivor such as yours truly.

My New Shirt!I think undergoing a nephrectomy is qualification. I am still here. I am still upright and breathing. The Sun rises in the morning and the Sun sets in the evening………………………..It’s all good.

OT.

Going to work in a short while. It is my turn. Every fourth weekend, we each have a turn. At 40.37 an hour, it works. That is my OT rate.

The weather is going to get ugly in a few hours. The “last taste of winter” is inbound. The Β  LA area is already getting rain. The snow level is forecast for about 3000 feet tonight. We are at 2375 in town and 2299 at Edwards.

I hope I don’t have to spend much time on the line today…………….

Going to a friend’s house later for Corn Beef, Cabbage and Green Beer.

Got the VA clinic thing on Wednesday. Annual check up. They wanted me to do it every six months. I am in better shape than that! Got a blood vessel protrusion on the noggin that once in a while I tag while shaving my head. Yes folks, I shave my head. When the bald spot appeared and the comb over not being an option……….in the shower, every day during the work week. Barbasol Aloe Vera shave cream and a Gillette Pro Fusion five blade razor. Does quite well.

Have a pleasant St. Patrick’s Day.
