A cosmic sackful of black coal

Bored on a Saturday with the usual stuff. I found this one at http://phys.org/

This image from the Wide Field Imager on the MPG/ESO 2.2-meter telescope shows part of the huge cloud of dust and gas known as the Coalsack Nebula. The dust in this nebula absorbs and scatters the light from background stars. Credit: ESO
I thought it was interesting………………….

Tom Russell and Nancy Griffith-Canadian Whiskey

“In the hills of Montana
There’s a timber wolf howlin’
The Rangers are prowlin’
For a woman alone
She’d run away
From an Indian lover
He’ll never recover
She turned him to stone”

Damn this gal does some seriously awesome work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is doing the HSM-49 MH-60R CAG Bird as she has done all of the Helo Squadron CAG Birds based at NAS North Island.

I asked her if I could blog the progress of this project and she said to take them from Flygirlpainter at Facebook and to go for it. I have done two at http://oldretiredpettyofficer.blogspot.com/ already. Then I realized that not everyone reads that blog, so I am saturation bombing on a less regular cycle here at ATJT………………….

Please enjoy, my friends!

The Turning………………Lyrics Only………….well maybe a little more

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won’t understand
“Don’t accept that what’s happening
Is just a case of others’ suffering
Or you’ll find that you’re joining in
The turning away”
It’s a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it’s shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we’re all alone
In the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerised as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night
No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away?

Somebody’s Gotta Do It – CNN’s Mike Rowe Pays Tribute to Navy Seabees

“Mike Rowe, show host of CNN’s Somebody’s Gotta Do It, is known for his own hard work and appreciating hard work. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he praised one of the hardest working groups (and often the most overlooked) groups around– the Navy Seabees.”

Mike Rowe is a really good man. He is one that youngsters these days should take onboard as a role model in my humble opinion.

I miss Dirty Jobs but I do DVR his new show on CNN. It is the only show on CNN worth any effort.

The entire straight skinny is at the link below.

The Great Escape: 50th anniversary – Telegraph.

Good Grief, I was 10! I saw this movie at that age………My Dad took me to it. We had a little grey VW Beetle as the Family Car…………………………………..

My favorites were James Garner, Donald Pleasence and Sir Richard Attenborough. Steve McQueen became a bit of a movie legend in this one.

I was 10…………………………I have to let that sink in.

Steve McQueen became the definition of cool on a level with the Rat Pack.

The Red Baron Flies Again!

The Red Baron flies again! Man spends £50,000 building himself an exact working replica of the German pilot’s Fokker triplane!

This one was too cool to pass up! It sure beats the 3/4 scale and full scale replicas that are available in kit form.

Now that's a model plane: Paul Ford, 52, spent five years and £50,000 creating his working replica of the Fokker Dr1 Dreidecker. The German First World War fighter was made famous by Manfred Von Richthofen, aka the Red Baron, who shot down 70 allied pilots
