We caught a good one this past weekend at The Historic Pozo Saloon, up in the hills above Santa Margarita.

Apologies to my good writer friends out there. It’s a Saturday and I have had a bit of a time with the digestive tract today. I needed something to post and someone had the above picture at Facebook……………………..
I found this site and have added it to the favourites listing. It has some really good reading on it. This one is kind of neat in that it uses the word synagogue vice temple. Seems that in the Common Era, that is a lost term. I still use it. OK, I may be getting old.(my doctor actually said this a few weeks ago.)
As a child, I was sent to Sunday School in a Congregational Church in a very small town in North Central Montana. I didn’t know I was actually Jewish until I was in the Navy……………………………………………Let me tell ya about a convoluted blood line sometime………………………
From a historical standpoint, this interests me.

Jayhawks to the Rescue!!!!!!!! This is funny in a way but it does show some serious ingenuity on the part of a pair of entrepenuers in Wichita. I wonder how much a pair of Joshua Trees would be?!?!?!?
Yes, I miss Wichita…………………We consider it to be home.
A couple of Kansas artists with an affinity for desert landscapes are making a name for themselves in Arizona and the southwest.
I am impressed. Normally the actions and expressions of actors and entertainers would not mean anything to me. This however is different. I had family members lost in the period from 1933 to 1945. It’s a sort of a big deal. I ama Jew, perhaps not a very observant and devout one but a Jew, none the less.
Simply the best looking helo paint scheme I have ever seen…………
I thought the HSM-35 Magicians one was killer and I saw it at the Miramar Show.
This one is the best.

The Navy Helo Community seems to like Shayne’s work!
As most of my followers know, I was fortunate to be able to spend a day on this Fine Ship last April 9(2014) with Christopher Goodrich and his Daughter, the WSO. It was, except for the marriage of my children and the birth of my grandchildren, The Best Day since I retired from the US Navy in September of 1993.
This is a somewhat solemn post as when we enter or leave Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Honors must be rendered with the Traditional Manning The Rail…………in Dress Uniform…………………….Attention To Port! Hand Salute………………………..Too!
In the old days we would exit on the opposite side of Ford Island and do the very same for The Utah.

A few samples follow………………………………
The USS Missouri and The USS Arizona Memorial. The two ships that represent the beginning and the ending of World War 2.
It has been a long time since I have been to Naval Station Pearl Harbor……………………………Perhaps I should take Missus ORPO as we are approaching the sunset years……………

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won’t understand
“Don’t accept that what’s happening
Is just a case of others’ suffering
Or you’ll find that you’re joining in
The turning away”
It’s a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it’s shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we’re all alone
In the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerised as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night
No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away?
For the record, the wire mentioned in launching the Super Etendard is the bridle…………….It was used our carriers as well in the days of the Phantom, Crusader, Vigilante, Trader and Skywarrior in my early days in aboard the Forrestal Class Carriers Independence and Ranger.
